Malletfest 2026 — Shepton Mallet Football Club

Shepton Mallet is about to host one of its biggest music events of the year. Malletfest 26 takes over Shepton Mallet AFC on Saturday 27 June, running from 1:30pm all the way through to 1:30am — twelve hours of live music, DJs and festival energy in the heart of the town.

Top of the bill is Absolute Oasis, bringing the swagger and anthems of Britpop's biggest band to a crowd that, let's be

honest, already knows every word. Joining them are local acts Luke Potter, Paper Planes, Eddie Dean and Troy Ellis, with special guests also confirmed. DJ collective DMEHCE keep things moving across the full day, filling every gap between the live sets.

Advance tickets are £25, with gate tickets still available on the day. No food or drink from outside, but cash and card are both accepted inside. Disabled parking and access are available at the ground. A summer Saturday in Shepton — this one is worth making the trip.

🥊 Shepton boxing club returns as national champions

Shepton Mallet's Round House Boxing Club returned from the Manchester Box Cup as champions — just nine months after opening. Reggie Williams took the under-60kg title by unanimous decision against a gym with links to Tyson Fury, while Charlene reached the final of her category in her very first bout. The club called the result "exactly what dreams are made of."

🏛️ Wells Museum moves to unlock its future

Wells Museum has signed off its first accounts as a Community Interest Company and launched a half-price entry offer for Wells Cathedral visitors. The CIC structure opens doors to larger grant applications, while the Cathedral tie-up aims to pull more city centre visitors through the museum's doors — a meaningful step for one of Wells' longest-standing cultural institutions.

🎬 Glastonbury The Movie gets a Wells premiere — with the director

The 30th Anniversary Cut of Glastonbury The Movie is screening at Wells Film Centre with director Robin Mahoney in person for a Q&A. The film rebuilds 100,000 people in the 1993 Glastonbury field — the last year before the BBC arrived — from the original Panavision negatives. If you were there, or wish you had been, this is the one not to miss.

🔥 Lorry fire closes A361 between Shepton and Glastonbury

A council gritting lorry caught fire on Edgarley Road near Glastonbury this morning, forcing the closure of the A361 between Shepton Mallet and Glastonbury. Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue sent two engines and a water carrier; the vehicle was 90% destroyed. FromeBus diverted its 669 service via Wells, leaving Pilton and West Pennard unserved. The driver was safely out before crews arrived.

🎉 Party at the Palace returns to Wells for three days of live music

One of Wells' biggest summer events is almost here. Party at the Palace returns to the Bishop's Palace grounds on 3–5 July, bringing three days of headline performances, tribute shows and a kids' pop party to one of Somerset's most dramatic settings. Set against 800 years of medieval history, it's shaping up to be a summer highlight — tickets are on sale now.

🌡️ Wells BA5 Weather — Week of 25 June 2026

The Met Office red extreme heat warning is still in effect across the Mendips through Thursday, with temperatures touching 34–36°C. The heatwave is expected to ease later this week as Atlantic air pushes back in, bringing possible heavy showers or thunderstorms — potentially arriving as soon as the weekend. Worth keeping an eye on the forecast before heading to Malletfest or any outdoor events on Saturday.
